What is the general speed limit in South Africa?
60 km/h in a built-up (urban) area, 100 km/h on a public road outside an urban area, and 120 km/h on a freeway — unless a sign shows otherwise.
What is the safe following distance?
A minimum of 2 seconds behind the vehicle in front in good conditions, increased to at least 3 seconds in the wet.
What is the legal alcohol limit for driving?
0.05 g per 100 ml of blood for an ordinary driver, and a stricter 0.02 g per 100 ml for a professional (PrDP) driver.
